This analysis is Part II of the article which I had shared with you yesterday. All the previous major empires were European based empires – the Portugeuse, the Spanish, the German and they all feared the rise of the then Russia, China and Japan. All major wars were continental European wars for supremacy over the continent.
Unfortunately, this is not even considered by our Foreign Office (Wisma Putra). The “British Commonwealth” (another name for the British Empire and former colonies) is still subservient to the British masters, notwithstanding the granting of Independence to the colonies.
The formation of Malaysia under the tutelage of the British was to checkmate the geopolitical ambitions of Indonesia to be the regional power of the “Eastern Archipelago” after the failed attempt by the Japanese in the events leading to WWII.
Though the British Empire was NOT DIRECTLY involved behind the Japanese concept of the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere, the concept emerged as a way to establish a new regional order centred around Japanese leadership and to exploit resources in Southeast Asia, with the goal of pushing out Western powers like Britain. It is not in dispute that Japan did draw inspiration from pre-existing concepts of spheres of influence and aspects of the British Empire’s own colonial practices.
