A Glowing Tribute To Mr Rene Chang, First Renal Transplant Surgeon In St Georges Hospital, London, UK

Mr. Rene Chang is my brother and the eldest in my family.  He was and still is the personification of striving for perfection for patients’ wellbeing. This, he succeeded admirably as the Tribute by the St. Georges Hospital on the 25th Anniversay of the Renal Unit as a Charity shows clearly. He came to Malaysia when Tun Mahathir was the then prime minister and offered to train Malaysian doctors in kidney transplant surgery and to adopt a software programme which he invented that would help increase the survival rates and the decrease in mortality rates in such operations as well as other medical treatment. Sadly, the offer was not taken up. It is only recently, that Tan Sri Abu Bakar, his former school classmate as Vice Chancellor of the International Medical University (formerly IMC) took the initiative to have collaboration with the St. Georges Hospital, after Mr. Rene Chang retired.

I am so proud that my brother has made more than a mark in the medical field in London. He has retired from medical practice.

May God continue to bless him and his family.

Matthias Chang
